May 6, 2009 :: Sweet donation from Skateboardmom in Laguna Beach
Special thanks to Skateboardmom for this great donation. She's building a skate ramp in her backyard and needed to get rid of some agave and jade plants. Mr. Stamen and Roly Poly visited Laguna Beach for a great donation! Some of these plants will be put into the upcoming Wilshire & Highland garden and the rest will stay with LAGG until we find them a good home. You can check out the great things Skateboardmom is doing for girls and skateboarding as well!

March 21, 2009 :: Wilton & Sunset and another new friend, Chris
More donated plants! Our new friend, Chris, is going to be a part of the Theodore Payne Native Plant Garden Tour and needed to get rid of some non-natives from his garden. We were so happy to help! And look at our new Jade trees! Kory and Chris will be Los Angeles Site #2 on the tour, so if you're on the tour, say hello!

March 18, 2009 :: Wilton & Sunset and our new friend Jennifer
Experienced gardener and new friend to LAGG, Jennifer, donated a trunk full of plants to LAGG today. We took seedlings and cuttings and filled our car to the brim. We went straight to Wilton & Sunset to add our new plants to the garden. Thank you so much Jennifer!
You don't need words
I was weeding today at one of the guerrilla gardens (Wilton & Sunset) and finished the second half of the mission solo. Which is something I need to do more often. It truly is a sort of meditation. And getting a weed out from the very bottom of its root is a satisfaction I'm not sure I can put into words.
At some point a Vietnamese gentlemen in his 40's came passing by as I was yanking out the little intruders. He smiled and kept walking. Moments later, he turned around pointing at the garden and said in very broken English, "You work?"
Me: "No, I'm just a volunteer. My friends and I put this garden in...we're trying to clean up the city a little."
He sort of cocked his head to the side and stood there, kind of processing what I just said. He gave me a pretty generic smile and a head nod as if he was leaving, but continued to just stand there. I wasn't sure what else to say, so I continued weeding. He stood still for a solid 20 seconds, just watching me. Then, in silence, he bent down and started pulling weeds.
Neither one of us said a word. I smiled at him once or twice and then after he pulled a few handfuls, he stood up, waved goodbye and was on his way.
THIS is why I guerrilla garden.

October 20, 2008 :: Sunset & Bates
Pretty sure we had the biggest showing ever for LAGG. So great to meet new troops and see everyone so excited about getting their hands dirty. We were especially grateful to have Rosa, Landscaping Extraordinaire, help with our design and layout at this garden.

October 9, 2008 :: Animo High School, South Central
Mr. Stamen and Roly Poly visited Animo High School Gardening Club to talk about Guerrilla Gardening in LA. Their group had a few missions over the summer -- one of which was interrupted by the LAPD! They've titled themselves South Central Resistance and are currently looking for a new spot to garden close to their school. LAGG is really looking forward to working with these students and can't wait to see their gardens! Show your support and check them out on Myspace.

August 25, 2008 :: Wilton & Sunset
We had some interesting surprises at the dig tonight. Los Angeles Councilman, Tom LaBonge stopped by to say hello and scope out the mission. Not only that, he brought ice cream for everyone!
We also had a very excited new troop member stop by to find out how to get involved. Her name is Chrysanthemum and she was escorted by her lovely mom, Water Lily. They've been looking for a way to get involved and were excited to see us out gardening. They brought along MUCH needed water and helped us catch up on some watering.
This spot is pretty close to done and will just need maintenance from now on. We're officially looking for a new site and welcome any suggestions.

June 25, 2008 :: Wilton & Sunset
Another warm and fuzzy today...Josh and Sarah stopped by to tell us that the garden made them feel proud of where they lived.
Special BIG thank you to Melissa, Maribel & Heidi who walk by on their way to school everyday and water their favorite flowers!
Jerry came by the garden and asked what we were doing and encouraged us to keep going. "You have big hearts."

June 22, 2008 :: Wilton & Sunset
The Guerrilla Gardening sign has been pinched!
Spoke with Luke while I was watering plants. He talked at length how he liked the garden, would love to see edibles (working on that for future projects), and talking to the community counsel about legitimizing the garden.
Buck helped me push the cart with the second load of water. He offered to look for a key that would allow me to access the water pipes that are in the ground already. He said he would leave it in a covert area where I would be able to find it.

June 20, 2008 :: Wilton & Sunset
I was driving by the site today and saw two strangers at the garden and had to stop. So many thanks to Ken and Juan for showing up with two watering cans full of water! (Seriously made my day and made me feel great about the garden and the community getting involved.)
Also talked with LED121 about upcoming propaganda for the garden.

On my way to the site today, I ran into Daniel -- he let me steal some water while he was working.
Ran into Ruthie again today! She reaffirmed she would come water.
