[TOP 10] Best Commercial Edger For Professional Use

Best Commercial Edger For Professional Use 2019

Perhaps you own your own landscaping business, or maybe you’re simply the gardener for a big corporation. Regardless, you one day find yourself in need of a good lawn edger. You need something that can even out lawns, but you don’t trust just any take-own edger. You need something with oomph and power.

You need a commercial lawn edger.

What Is A Lawn Edger?

Have you ever seen a lawn and just thought to yourself, “My god, what a perfect yard! How can I get mine to look like that?!” Well, think to yourself for just a moment. What about the lawn made it so perfect? Was it the crisp, even look of the grass? Was it the clean shave along the edges of the cobblestone path?

While lawn mowers are what gave the grass its look, lawn edgers are the reason the path’s edges look so nice and clean. They are typically low-powered grass-cutters that are intended to be used for touching up your yard. They are not the same thing as trenchers or trimmers, though a lot of edger models can perform multiple jobs. And edgers come in many types; some are very strong, some are just strong enough, and some don’t require any power at all to function!

Commercial vs Non:

What’s The Difference?

Technically nothing, as most lawn edgers are built pretty equally regardless of their purpose. But if you’re looking to read between the lines, then there are a few notable differences between commercial and non-commercial lawn edgers. For one, commercial lawn edgers tend to be a little more expensive, though this isn’t always the case. What often determines the price of a commercial edger is its power source. Is it a powered by gasoline and oil, or electricity and batteries?

Another notable difference is the claim that commercial lawn edgers are more powerful than non-commercial products. This is mostly true, though there can still be some exceptions. Truth be told, you often see the biggest differences when looking at more powerful machines, such as trimmers and lawn mowers. Granted, the difference can still be seen; as evidenced by some of the entrants on this list!

  1    BLACK+DECKER LST400

BLACK+DECKER LST400 20V Lithium High Performance Trimmer and Edger, 12"

When doing our research in the pursuit of finding the best commercial stick edger, we noticed a few trends. One, electric lawn edgers tend to rank higher in people’s favor than gas-powered edgers (probably due to the low cost). Two, people LOVE edgers that can also trim or trench. After all, it saves them the trouble from having to buy another piece of technology!

Third and lastly, people REALLY like black and decker edgers.

So it makes sense that the number one edger on this list would turn out to be a black and decker cordless edger!

The BLACK+DECKER LST400 is every perk mentioned above and then some. It has power, grace, and longevity! With an impressively powerful battery, you’re sure to squeeze in all the edging and trimming that you could hope to accomplish in the span of an hour. That’s mighty nifty, considering most batteries don’t even last half that time!

Can you see why this baby is considered the best commercial edger?!

PROS

 - Environmentally friendly

 - Automatic spool feeder

 - Can also trim

- Light as a feather

- Long lasting battery, Cordless

CONS

 - Pricey

  2    BLACK+DECKER LE750

 BLACK+DECKER LE750 12 Amp 2-in-1 Landscape Edger and Trencher

Alternatively, you can go with the BLACK+DECKER LE750. This corded version of the BLACK+DECKER LST400 is much less expensive and can provide trenching functions. The number one entrant on our list of the top ten best commercial edgers can trim very well, but it sadly can’t trench very good. Where the LST400 falls short, the LE750’s got it covered!

Just keep in mind that, like most pieces of equipment, you must take special care of it or it will break on you. We understand that we state this very often on these lists, but not without good reason! If you read any negative review of these edgers, you’re sure to find a few unhappy users who neglect to mention their maintenance habits. They just leave details at “I’ve have this edger for six months and it doesn’t work anymore. What a rip-off!”

Don’t be like these users; take care of your BLACK+DECKER LE750.

PROS

 - Affordable

 - Environmentally friendly

 - Simple to assemble

- Can also trench

CONS

 - Needs regular maintenance

  3    WORX WG896

WORX WG896 12 Amp 7.5" Electric Lawn Edger & Trencher, 7.5in, Orange and Black

The WORX WG896 is a handy commercial lawn edger to consider bringing with you for your door-to-door services. While the number two entrant is a fantastic trencher in its own right, this baby has a few perks that the former doesn’t. For starters, this edger has a pivoting handle, which can be handy in reaching angles that are hard to achieve otherwise. Also, this model can adjust its head in about three separate positions, which adds on to the usefulness of the pivoting handle.

While we’re talking about the WORX WG896, we’re obligated to inform you of a common complaint found in this model. Some users have reported their model coming in with loose blades. This isn’t true for ALL models, but it’s something you should be made aware of when ordering this. If your edger comes to you with loose blades, take care to tighten them back up. Once this is done, you’ll be good to go!

PROS

 - Inexpensive

 - Environmentally friendly

 - Adjusts in three separate positions

- Handle pivots

CONS

 - Some users report loose blades

  4    Greenworks 27032

Greenworks 12 Amp Corded Edger 27032

While all electric lawn edgers are environmentally friendly, none make it their mission quite like those that hail from the eco-friendly company known as Greenworks. The Greenworks 27032 takes the environment’s needs very seriously, finding ways to use electricity without damaging the well-being of the area around you. Not only that, but it comes with a spring assisted front wheel. This allows for easier maneuverability and edging.

Another perk to the Greenworks 27032 is the cord retention lock, which saves you from accidentally yanking your cord out while edging. This is a blessing for most, as a huge concern is often how far you can venture until your cord unplugs itself from your socket. With the lock, you don’t have to worry about that. Talk about a saving grace!

PROS

 - Not expensive

 - Environmentally friendly

 - Spring assisted front wheel

- Handle is adjustable

- Cord retention lock

CONS

 - Some users report loose blades

  5    Troy-Bilt TB516 EC

Troy-Bilt TB516 EC 29cc 4-Cycle Wheeled Edger with JumpStart Technology

In the line of professional lawn edgers, the Troy-Bilt TB516 EC is here to remind us all that gas lawn edgers can still kick some serious butt, too. This nifty lawn edger is engineered with amazing JumpStart technology, which saves you time and frustration that you are often forced to endure with other gas lawn edger models. Not only that, but this edger doesn’t require you to mix gas and oil to make it function. That’s pretty awesome, if you ask us!

PROS

 - Handle is well designed

 - Great start-up technology

 - Don’t have to mix gas and oil

- Blades are extra sharp

CONS

 - Expensive

- Not as strong as other gas edgers

  6    Southland SWLE0799

Southland SWLE0799 79cc Walk Behind Gas Lawn Edger

Furthering the reputation of gas lawn edgers, the Southland SWLE0799 is a notable representative. Packing a lovely tri-tip blade, this commercial walk behind edger can hack away at any straggling grass blades plaguing the integrity of your lawn and have it looking clean and perfect. And the best thing about this model being a gas lawn edger is that you don’t have to worry about it breaking down on you nearly as often as you do electric lawn edgers. Yes, you do still have to take care of your equipment, but it’s not as dire...which is a life-saver for most people!

PROS

 - Strong-bodied

 - Blades are adjustable

 - Easy start-up

- Blades are extra sharp

- Adjusts in five separate positions

CONS

 - Not as powerful as other gas edgers

- Expensive

  7    Bully Tools 92251

Bully Tools 92251 Round Lawn Edger with Steel T-Style Handle

Okay, so how many of you saw this thing on our list and immediately thought, “Why the hell do you have a shovel on this list?!” It’s okay if you did, we aren’t offended in the slightest. In fact, we see this as an excellent learning opportunity for you fine folks out there reading this on the internet. Starting off, we want to make something perfectly clear for you guys: this is NOT a shovel.

That’s right, this is still a commercial lawn edger.

How can an edger that isn’t powered by electricity or gasoline be featured on this list, you ask? Because even though you have to put more effort into edging with this model, it’s basically guaranteed that this edger will last MUCH longer than anything else on this list. The reason being just that; you DON’T have to worry about powering it up. It’s not going to short out on you, it won’t run out of gas, and you can leave it out in the most hazardous weather and it will still be good to use. Best of all, you’re free to toss this edger around like a ragdoll and it won’t break on you (unless you were unlucky enough to buy a defected version, of course).

But since the Bully Tools 92251 does require additional work to use, we don’t recommend it to anyone who has chronic back problems.

PROS

 - Made entirely out of steel

 - Surprisingly light

 - Very durable

- Can also trench

- T-style handle, Super cheap!

CONS

 - Not motorized

  8    WORX WG170

WORX WG170 GT Revolution 20V 12" Grass Trimmer

Oh look, a second appearance from our friends over at Worx!

The WORX WG170 is quite the powerhouse, if we do say so ourselves! Unlike the WORX WG896, this baby can perform THREE different tasks. Sure, it can’t trench very well...but it CAN trim. Alternatively, you can use this invention as a mini-lawn mower. Yes, you read that right! A mini-lawn mower!

In fact, if it weren’t for the high cost of this commercial lawn edger, the WORX WG170 would be ranked much higher on this list!

PROS

 - Counts as a mini-mower

 - Can also trim

 - Instant spool-feeder

- Very powerful

- Environmentally friendly

- Extremely versatile

- Adjustable shaft

CONS

 - Pricey

  9    Craftsman E405

CRAFTSMAN E405 29cc 4-Cycle Gas Powered Grass Lawn Edger

As far as commercial lawn edgers go, you can’t go wrong with Craftsman. Despite being a subset brand of Sears, these wicked grass-cutting machines have held their own when competing against not only other lawn edgers, but also trimmers and lawn mowers. What turns people on to Craftsman products, you wonder? Well we can give you quite the simple answer right here and now.

They’re easy to use!

Think about it, there are two kinds of people in this world. There are those who want their lawn edgers to do multiple jobs for them at once, and then there are those who just want an edger that’s straight to the point. Those of you who identify with the second type will heavily appreciate the simplicity of the Craftsman E405. No complications, no catches--just straight edging on a powerful gas engine!

PROS

 - Three transport wheels added for stability

 - Little to no vibration

 - Efficient design for handle

- Start up is easy, Powerful engine

CONS

 - Pricey

- Not environmentally friendly

  10    Ivation IVAGT20V

Ivation 20V 2.0AH Cordless Grass String Trimmer & Edger

A brand that you don’t see very often on these lists, Ivation brings us this lovely electric lawn edger. The IVAGT20V is a particularly underestimated addition to our list of the top ten best commercial edgers. Call it one of those edgers that you see businesses use, but you can’t ever see the name of the brand from a distance. It’s used by quite a few people for both commercial and non-commercial use, but why do the other brands get more attention?

Because the other edgers on this list arguably have more power than the Ivation IVAGT20V.

But don’t let this fact keep you from wanting to use this electric lawn edger. As far as we’re concerned, a bunch of power isn’t really necessary when edging your lawn. For the power this edger provides, it’s more than enough to edge and trim your lawn--and STILL provide top-notch results! We mean, if you want to go ham on your grass, you could just purchase a lawn mower!

Otherwise, why not give this baby a try?

PROS

 - Seconds as a trimmer

 - Cordless

 - Environmentally friendly

- Automatic spool feeder

- Telescoping shaft is easy to adjust

- Handle is adjustable

- Trimmer head has four angles

- Super cheap!

CONS

 - Not the most powerful edger on this list

Concluding Thoughts

As evidenced here today, commercial lawn edgers aren’t so different from the typical lawn edgers you’d purchase for your home. In fact, some of these models can double as home-owned edgers AND commercial! The primary difference lies in the intended purpose of your lawn edger. If you’re gonna use it commercially for your office building or on-the-go business, you need something strong and reliable. Home-owner edgers are a dime a dozen, but commercial edgers are supposed to last.

And on our list of the top ten best commercial edgers, we’ve found edgers of many kinds. We have gas lawn edgers, electric lawn edgers, cordless lawn edgers, and even manual lawn edgers! We’ve ranked them by standards that we personally see fit. But in the end, the final decision comes down to you.

Which will you purchase?
